Client Risk Management Services

By partnering with The Risk Management and Patient Safety Institute, each Washington Casualty Company professional liability client receives a risk management package that includes the following.

  • Consultative Services — Our risk consultants will provide telephone, e-mail or on-site consultation for our policyholders. Services may include assistance in implementation of recommendations generated from risk assessments; analysis of incidents and claims; and responding to special requests such as the handling of complex medical record releases, difficult patient communications, or unusual and unexpected occurrences.
  • 24-Hour Hotline — Help is just a phone call away. If your assigned consultant is not available, we provide an after-hours contact number that allows you access to professional risk management advice at any time of the day or night.
  • Newsletters — A package of electronic newsletters; each focuses on either health care facility topics, physician topics or specialty issues such as OD, ED, etc.
  • Assessment program — A review of the facility’s risk management program and clinical areas, the assessment provides practical suggestions to support and strengthen your patient safety program.
  • RM&PSI Web site — This Web site provides access to risk management manuals, archives of Instant E-mails and newsletters, White Papers, Programs-to-Go, links to related Web sites, etc.
  • Clinical Services Risk Management Manual — An in-depth look at high-risk clinical areas and quality, patient safety and liability issues. Tools include a self-assessment.
  • Health Care Facility Risk Management Manual — This manual contains more than 1,500 pages; addresses numerous risk management topics; and includes downloadable sample policies, procedures and forms.
  • Physician Practice Risk Management Manual — Focused on office practice risk management, topics include patient relations, appropriate discontinuance of the patient/physician relationship, etc.
  • Instant E-mails — Published regularly throughout the year on current risk management and patient safety topics, these e-mails include useful links for additional in-depth information.
  • White Papers — Topical monographs offering an in-depth look at current risk management/patient safety issue having local, regional and national implications.
  • Advisory Council — This group of insured risk managers provide us with feedback about our services and other “front line” concerns. By invitation only.
  • Programs-to-Go are educational programs that cover a variety of risk management topics and allow you to train staff with minimal amount of preparation. These programs can be downloaded from our Web site. Topics include documentation, health care risk management, fall prevention, EMTALA, and workplace violence prevention.
  • Audioconferences are offered several times monthly on a variety of topics. Two RM&PSI audioconferences per year are provided at no additional charge. You may participate in other conferences at a special discounted rate of $85. In addition, WCC will also offer two Employment Practices Liability programs at no additional cost for those policyholders that have purchased employment liability coverage as part of their insurance package. Registration brochures will be sent to your facility generally by e-mail.
  • Risk management and patient safety regional programs are offered on an annual basis. Individualized on-site education programs may be developed and presented by your assigned consultant to meet the specific needs of your facility.
  • Annual RM&PSI Conference — This conference features national speakers, great networking opportunities and a lot of fun.
